“The United States is the only country where people believe you can learn a foreign language in two school years.” – Hyde Flippo

I decided to quote Hyde Flippo to answer the question written as the title. This was just about the best answer that I could find that was absolutely believable. Most Germans would actually laugh at the assumption that German can be learned so easily, for one thing, it takes some of the Germans a lifetime to learn all the inflections in their language and without actually speaking it makes the learning and the speaking an impossible feat.

German cannot be learned from dummy books, it would just make a dummy out of the learner. German is so difficult that if you were not wholly committed to the language then the learning will all go to waste.

For one thing, the German language is the mother of the English language and this could confuse a lot of the learners who think that, sure, the word sound English ergo it should mean the same. This is so not true, fest may mean festival, but bald has absolutely nothing to do with hair. They are pronounced the same way as in English, but mind you, people will laugh when you confuse them.

For one thing, word of warning, immersion into the language is the only way learning German works. There are sites online that could help out the students and teachers. These sites help with the inflections, the genitives, datives, the strong, weak and neuter words that only German has.

Forget the promises of some learning German tools, facts are facts. Without the practice, there is no way to learn it fast. Using dummy books will not help at all. The only way to do the learning is through a long and serious education if the learning is done in places outside of Germany, and definitely not in two years.
